AVENUE Armory Show a Hit

The 2010 AVENUE Antiques & Art at the Armory show opened last week, from Sept. 29 through Oct. 3, with more than 60 exhibitors. Over 1,000 visitors enjoyed the open bar and passed apps as they strolled down the aisles of the show during the special VIP event, and more than 6,000 attended over the course of the four-day event. Amazing Antiques
Record-breaking crowds flocked to the AVENUE Antiques & Art at the Armory Show, which took place Dec. 3 to Dec. 6 at the Park Avenue Armory at East 67th Street. With more than 55 leading international dealers offering something for every interest and price level, the show provided the ultimate holiday gift buying opportunity. The show’s elegant look was conceived by noted interior designer Richard Mishaan. Read more
Turning Japanese
For years I’ve been flagrantly getting high—high as a kite—in a secluded store on the East Side. I open a nondescript door on Lexington at 61st Street, beneath a banner that reads “Things Japanese,” and make my way up a narrow stairway to the second floor. Suddenly, thousands of museum-quality Japanese antiques make my mood soar. The world-class institution (as I think of Things Japanese) is 37 years old.
A tip: I’ve never before seen such a huge, reasonably priced (read: inexpensive) treasure trove of art objects from the 18th century to the 1950s. Read more
