Apt. Looted

A 29-year-old woman’s apartment was burglarized Sept. 1. The woman left her apartment on East 82nd Street between First and Second avenues at 7:45 a.m. When she returned at 10 p.m., she realized her apartment door had been left open. The burglar used the fire escape window to enter, police said. The burglar stole a Dell laptop, a $400 watch and a $300 watch, five rings valued at $2,500 and seven perfume bottles that cost $700.

Apartment Burglarized

A man’s apartment on East 83rd Street between Park and Madison avenues was burglarized July 19. The super of the building told police that two basement doors and a key box were forced open. A set of keys belonging to the man’s burglarized apartment were missing. The tenant, a 53-year-old man, came home to find his apartment ransacked and his wedding band stolen.

Best-Dressed Burglar

An elderly man with expensive taste was burglarized April 19. The victim, a 74-year-old resident of a building on East 68th Street and Second Avenue, left his apartment at 8:30 a.m. When he returned later in the day, his tie clips, watches, chains, a diamond encrusted cigar cutter and other items were missing. The total value of the stolen items was $1,923. He told police that he left the door unlocked for his housekeeper.

Restaurant Burglarized

Fig and Olive, a restaurant at 808 Lexington Ave. and East 62nd Street, was burglarized. A witness from a nursery school on the second floor of the building told police April 17 that she heard someone trying to break in. She saw a heavy-set man forcing open the front door to the restaurant. The safe from the office, containing $345, was taken, along with a digital camera and checkbook. Police said the pane of glass parallel to the front door was broken and that the lock had signs of tampering.

Restaurant Burglarized

Bellini Pizzeria, at 1660 Third Ave. and East 93rd Street, was burglarized March 26 sometime after 12:30 a.m. Police said an employee came to work that morning and noticed the front door was slightly open. Inside, two registers were left open and cleaned out. The burglar, however, only got away with $350, police said.

Invitation for Theft

A woman’s apartment, on East 84th Street and Lexington Avenue, was burglarized March 26. The 42-year-old woman, who told police that she always leaves her door unlocked, returned home at 6:50 p.m. to find her apartment disheveled. The burglar stole a $1,200 laptop and $6,500 worth of jewelry, including bracelets, earrings, necklaces and watches, according to cops.

Restaurant Burglarized

Samalitas restaurant, at 1681 First Ave. and East 87th Street, was burglarized March 24. When the manager opened the restaurant the next day, he noticed that $200 was missing from the register, along with two laptops. He checked the video surveillance tape and saw that a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt walked into the restaurant through an unlocked side door at 4:45 a.m., cops said.

Apartment Burglarized

Three roommates from an apartment building on East 88th Street, between Park and Lexington avenues, reported to police March 18 that their home was burglarized. One of the roommates returned to the apartment that day and saw that the front door’s frame was broken, and the door was wide open. Four laptops were stolen from the apartment, cops said.

Rude Burglar

A 45-year-old man’s apartment was burglarized March 11—and the man was left to clean up a mess in the kitchen. Police said the burglar entered the apartment, on First Avenue and East 94th Street, late at night, possibly through the terrace window. While inside, the burglar apparently cooked eggs and left the dishes in the sink. The burglar also took a $4,000, 46-inch television.

Attempted Boutique Burglary

An employee at Max Mara discovered that someone had attempted to burglarize the boutique March 13. When the 43-year-old woman opened the store, at 813 Madison Ave. and East 68th Street, she noticed that the front door lock was broken and that the rear door was open. However, police said nothing was reported stolen.
