SURVEY REVEALS WHAT IRKS EAST SIDERS
City Council Member Dan Garodnick set out to take the proverbial temperature of the constituents of his district, which spans parts of the Upper East Side, Midtown East, Turtle Bay and Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village. His office sent out a survey on an array of topics, from neighborhood to national, and got 1,300 responses in return (roughly one percent of the district’s population).

East Side Neighborhood Fundraiser at Shake Shack
The East 86th Street Association is holding a fundraising breakfast at Shake Shack this Saturday, May 7 from 8 – 10 a.m. City Councilmember Dan Garodnick and State Senator Liz Krueger, along with other community leaders, will attend. Children are invited free of charge, and will be entertained by Sammie and Tudie’s Comedy Magic Circus Show and Face Art by Melissa. There will be raffle prizes and giveaways, including dinners at Blue Smoke, Maz Mezcal and Coogan’s, yoga lessons at Pure Yoga, gift certificates from Le Pain Quotidien and Little Brown Chocolate Bakery, an appliance from Best Buy, and more. Garodnick Fights Bogus Parking Permits
City Council Members Dan Garodnick and Leroy Comrie introduced the Authentic Permit Act, which would overhaul the city’s parking permits and require them to feature scannable barcodes.
“The bill would require that the city put bar codes on valid parking placards so that they can be scanned and checked for validity by parking agents,” Garodnick said. Read more

Nuclear Safety: Senator Krueger has been calling for the decommissioning of the Indian Point nuclear facility.
Hydrofracking: Krueger supports the national FRAC Act and says that before we allow drilling in New York State, it’s imperative that gas companies reveal what chemicals they use in the hydrofracking process.
Garodnick: Time to Reform NY’s Pedicab Industry
The city’s pedicab industry is cycling towards new rules and regulations.
Upper East Side Council Member Dan Garodnick introduced a legislation package to the City Council last week that will regulate and reform the pedicab industry.

Rally for Rent Reform
State Senator Liz Krueger joined elected representatives from around the five boroughs today on the steps of City Hall, calling for Governor Cuomo to address rent reform in the state budget. The rally, lead by State Senator Adriano Espaillat, brought officials, including Council Member Dan Garodnick, and community advocate groups together in support of new state legislation that will strengthen existing rent regulation laws. Current rent regulation laws are set to expire on June 15, 2011, but the rally focused on renewing these laws much earlier to avoid confusion and chaos for the residents of over one million rent-stabilized units in New York City. GARODNICK TO CHAIR CONSUMER AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Council Member Dan Garodnick was recently elected by his colleagues to chair the Council’s Committee on Consumer Affairs.
As his first order of business, he set up an email tip line—FightFraudNYC@gmail.com—for consumers to report complaints, scams, questionable business practices or areas for the committee to delve into in its oversight hearings. Read more
