Seniors Voice Concerns on SBS and Bike Lanes

The implementation of Select Bus Service and new bike lanes along First and Second avenues has caused confusion and concern for some pedestrians. The office of State Senator Thomas K. Here Comes Fairway Market
Grocer breaks ground for 86th Street store

Upper East Side elected officials joined with the owner of Fairway Market Oct. 6, to break ground on the grocer’s new East 86th Street location.
“It’s great for our health. It’s great for the economy. And it’s great for our neighborhood,” said Rep. Carolyn Maloney. The new Fairway will create 300 to 400 new jobs, she said. Read more
DOT TRIES NEW PARKING PROGRAM

Parking is one of the classic problems of New York living. Countless minutes are spent circling around a neighborhood in an effort to find a free parking spot on the street.
On the Upper East Side, where good parking spots are a commodity, the Department of Transportation has been testing out a new pilot program called Park Smart, according to Streetsblog.org, a transportation news website. Read more
Fairway Receives Extended Loading Zone Hours

The famed West Side market has jumped another hurdle in its move to East 86th Street, between Second and Third avenues. Fairway recently received extended loading zone hours from the Department of Transportation that will allow it to load and unload trucks between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m., seven days per week. The size of the loading zone is yet to be determined. Read more
York Avenue’s Confusing Cross-Walk

A crossing signal at a York Avenue intersection continues to baffle pedestrians, with some unknowingly walking into oncoming traffic.
In October 2009, the Department of Transportation (DOT) installed a “Wait for Walk” signal on the northeast corner of East 79th Street and York Avenue. While it was meant to aid people in crossing the two-lane avenue, the signal has confused some pedestrians. Read more
City Worker Assaulted
A Department of Transportation (DOT) worker was assaulted July 20 at 11:20 p.m., according to police. The 45-year-old DOT employee, who lives in Harlem, told police he was hit with a metal pipe on the northeast corner of Second Avenue and East 65th Street. He instructed a car to get off the street and back up. The passenger got out of the car and assaulted him.
Bolt Bus Wants East Side Spot

For Upper East Siders who want a ticket out of the city, there may be no need to trek downtown to the Chinatown bus lines.
Bolt Bus, the company that drives people to nearby cities on the cheap, wants a drop-off and pick-up spot on Lexington Avenue between East 59th and 60th streets. Read more
