Pharmacy Robberies
Police are searching for suspects they say have robbed eight pharmacies in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. In each case, the suspects enter the stores with their faces covered and armed with a gun. The string of robberies began on Jan. 20 at 9:55 a.m., when a group stole drugs from R.O.R. Madison Pharmacy at 1636 Madison Ave. and East 110th Street. The group has hit Manhattan several times since then, most recently a West Harlem pharmacy on Sept. 8. Anyone with information on the robberies can call 1-800-577-TIPS.
Pharmacy Scam
A pharmacy technician at Duane Reade was arrested on June 3 for bilking the store out of $67,621, starting in July 2008. Police said that Kavita Bharath, 24, would create a new prescription, sell it and then later refund the money from a drug clerkâs register into a Bank of America account. Bharath, a three-year employee of the 1498 York Ave. store, at East 80th Street, was arrested and charged with grand larceny.
