Four Thugs Attempt to Rob Teen

At around 8pm. on Saturday, April 13, a gang of four thugs set upon a 14-year-old boy at East 88th Street and East End Avenue inside Carl Schurz Park, near Gracie Mansion.

The predators threatened the youth with a “sharp object” and demanded his belongings. The teenager resisted and called police, who quickly responded but not before the four suspects had fled the park.

The victim was not injured and declined medical attention from first responders at the scene.

The park houses a newly renovated basketball court and three pickleball courts. It is also adjacent to Gracie Mansion, home of New York City mayors since 1942.

Despite a police presence at the mansion, the area is not immune to random acts of violence.

Last July, Marisa Galloway, 45, a beloved track coach at Fordham University, was shot to death outside 519 E. 88th St., a block from Gracie Mansion, by her former mother-in-law, Kathleen Leigh. Angered over a bitter child-custody battle between Galloway and her son, Leigh immediately committed suicide with the same 9mm Glock with which she became a murderer.

Early Morning Gunfire Near Queensboro Bridge

On April 14, 2025, at approximately 4:16am, officers responded to a 911 call of shots fired in front of 311 E. 60th St., a five-story building between First and Second avenues, within the confines of the 19th Precinct.

The building is home to a popular bar and grill, The Jeffrey NYC, and has the Ed Koch - Queensboro Bridge and the Roosevelt Island tram to its south and the bridge’s northbound exit ramp to its east. That means that it’s both isolated and noisy.

Because The Jeffrey closes at midnight on Mondays, there is no suspected relation between the establishment and the shooting.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/, or on X @NYPDTips. All calls are strictly confidential.
