East Side Subway Slasher Caught

A suspect was captured by two transit police officers on Aug. 21 shortly after the NYPD issued a video seeking the public’s help in finding the person allegedly involved in a random subway stabbing of a straphanger at the E. 96th subway station.

A 27-yea- old Queens man was arrested on Aug. 21 and charged in coonection with a random attack on the E. 96th St. subway platform thanks to two alert Transit police officers who recognized the suspect from a wanted poster and video while they were collaring him for jumping a turnstile.

Amad Edwards was charged with second degree assault after an unprovoked attack on straphanger on the E. 96th St. subway platform who was awaiting a 6 train.

Transit officers Sarr and Chowdhury stopped Edwards for jumping a turnstile at the E. 125th station near Lexington Ave. on Aug. 21. [The police did not release the first names of the two officers. ]

The suspect was accused of approaching a 52-year-old male standing on the northbound “6” train platform and striking him with a sharp object, causing a laceration to the right side of his neck on Aug. 20. The suspect fled that night while the victim was transported to a local hospital where he was said to be in stable condition.
